Most senior executives believe that employees are critical to the long term success of their company. However, they believe that HR is not stepping up to the mark. Executives perceive HR to be an administrative, process focussed function, not capable of delivering against the strategic people agenda.
It is not enough for HR functions to simply restructure and re-title. Organisations who have attempted to implement the HR Business Partner model without recognising or addressing the need for new skills, knowledge and a different HR mindset have inevitably led to frustration and perceived failure by both the business and themselves.
HR has few places to turn. HR gurus provide inspiration but little practical help. Traditional consulting firms hawk outdated models and try to sell their ‘process improvement’ or ‘outsourcing’ solutions. With little research to draw on, HR executives often believe that their concerns are not shared by others.
